Winnipeg Bids to Host Worldcon in 2023

What is this all about?

We are bidding to bring the 81st World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 2023. The location of Worldcon is decided by a vote of the members of the Worldcon held two years earlier. The site for 2023 will be decided at Discon 3, the Worldcon for 2021.

This site gives the bid committee’s explanation of our plans, and the reasons we think we can hold a wonderful Worldcon.

About Winnipeg

A joining of the Assiniboine River (that flows from west to east) into the Red River (which flows from South to North), people have gathered here to trade, talk, and entertain each other for hundreds, nay, thousands of years. Competing trading forts grew up on both sides of the Red River at this waterway junction, and now that junction is surrounded by a city. There is a tradition of many different peoples coming together here. From Somalian cuisine, to Ukrainian dance troupes, to Indigenous hoop dancers, we celebrate the many cultures of the wonderful mosaic that makes up Winnipeg. We look forward to showing you all the wonderful attractions of Winnipeg when we host the 2023 Worldcon, and would appreciate your vote.
